Day 14: Are you ready for some reading and Roosevelts?!?

“A book is a loaded gun in the house next door…Who knows who might be the target of the well-read man?”
― Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

Since I’m here to discuss danger and safety, and there’s nothing more safe OR dangerous than a book, I thought I’d throw out there what I read this summer.  In taking a peek at my old diaries, I posted a list like that in 2007 where I read 50 books in a summer (I’d just been broken up with, it was a dark and, apparently, productive, time.)

So, thanks to Amazon, its very easy for me to tell you what I read this summer: (Summer for me is from Memorial Day – Labor Day)

The Entire Dresden Files Series (15 books) – Jim Butrcher (re-read, Harry Dresden is my fictional boyfriend…)

Woo’d in Haste – Sabrina Darby (R)  (All books marked R are romance novels…my guilty pleasure)

Shadow’s Edge – J.T. Geissinger

Broken – Heather Boyd (R)

The Monstrumologist – Rick Yancy

Hadrian, Lord of Hope – Grace Burrowes (R)

Once Upon a Tartan -Grace Burrowes (R)

Wanton – Cheryl Holt (R)

Vixen in Velvet – Loretta Chase (R)

Winning Miss Wakefield – Vivienne Lorret (R)

The Captive – Grace Burrowes (R)

Bet Me – Jennifer Crusie (R)

The Cinderella Deal – Jennifer Crusie (R)

Getting Rid of Bradley 0 Jennifer Crusie (R)

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking – Susan Cain

The Suffragette Scandal – Courney Milan (R)

The Tattooed Duke – Maya Rodale (R)

Outlander: A Novel – Diana Gabaldon

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – J.K. Rowling

The Ocean at the End of the Lane – Neil Gaiman

July was a big month for romance novels, August was a month of books I thought I should read since people had talked about them, June was all Dresden Files all the time.

I’m kind of ready for fall now…bring on the comfy sweaters, hot drinks, soft blankets, and couch snuggling.

AND cooking all the things in the crock pot.

Tonight’s recipe: Pork Roast

1 lrg onion

6 carrots

4 potatoes

1 pork roast

salt, pepper, garlic to taste.

Layer the bottom with the large onion chunks.  Rest the pork roast on top, fill in with veggies, sprinkle on salt, pepper and garlic.  Add about 1 1/2 cups of water (enough to fill the bottom of the crock pot and cover the onions.  Cook for 4ish hours.

Easy.

Physical Health:

Hours of Sleep: 9.5 hours. I also love Sundays.

Exercise: Lots of walking around today and cleaning and running up and down the stairs.

Breakfast: A large, bavarian style pretzel.  I have no regrets.

Health

Cleaning or Packing?: Clean all the things!  Everything looks really nice.  And, though I am loathe to admit it, having cleaned a little every day did make this big cleaning easier.  Ugh.  Being a grown-up is even more obnoxious when it works.

Made my bed?:  Made our bed for the showing.  This is the only time I see bed making as a valid life choice.

Read 1 book a week: Read 2 trashy romance novels about tortured billionaires.  Might return to the Haunted Mansion book…but leaning more toward finding some horror or fantasy for this week.

Conclusion

“I was not scared of anything, when I read my book…”
― Neil Gaiman, The Ocean at the End of the Lane

Now I’m off to watch the PBS special on The Roosevelts.  Learn all the things!

I was super excited to see that was coming to PBS. The Roosevelts themselves are pretty interesting, but Ken Burns ON The Roosevelts? It doesn’t get much better. A great way to start off fall.
